One unique fact about this aircraft is that it has landed at the highest airport in the North America. KXLV in Leadville, Colorado.
The Leadville Airport is North America’s highest public use airport at an altitude of 9,934 feet. Located in central Colorado, 2 miles southwest of the city of Leadville, the airport provides a unique role to the area and communities of Lake and Summit Counties, linking them to the National Air Transportation System. Due to the high elevation of the airport, it has become recognized for high altitude testing and training for the military and aerospace companies worldwide.

Catto Propellers has been a progressive leader in the advancement of propeller design and engineering. The latest advancements have been in conducting a full vibration, Finite Element Analysis (FEA) and flow analysis of a propeller and adapting the findings to continuously advance our airfoils.
Catto Propellers partnered with Paulo Iscold, an Aeronautics Professor at UFMG in Brazil to develop a custom Data Acquisition Unit that is mounted inside of the spinner. This allows the harmonics of the blade to be monitored through all stages of flight. A materials engineering analysis was conducted as a result of the findings in order to reduce the vibration over the RPM operational range of the engine.
In 2013 Catto Propellers began to develop a method to record the dynamic air flow of a propeller in flight. With a custom mount made by Saber Manufacturing and a vacuum formed carbon fiber case to house the GoPro, we were able to maintain a live feed on the propeller aerodynamics.
The GoPro Hero 3+ with 60 frames per second, 1080p, provided a real time visual throughout the flight profile that allowed Craig Catto to improve the propeller efficiency by actively notating where it is possible to reattach flow and modify the airfoils accordingly, ultimately improving the performance of the blade, in all aspects.
It’s been this type of continuous improvement that has led to Catto’s achievement of numerous world records and recognition of advanced propeller design.

Aviation is my passion. I've been in love with flying since I was a child. My mom bought me a model airplane for my birthday and my dad helped me build it. Since that day, it's been in my veins. I'm the first, and only pilot in the family, but hope to add to that some day. I earned my private pilot certificate in high school, then instrument rating in college. Flying had to be put on hold while I pursued a career as a special education teacher for 10 years, before leaving due to stress and burnout.
I thankfully made a return to the aviation industry full-time in 2018 and it's been the best thing for myself and my family.
Aviation photography has been the constant through it all, having done it now for over 20 years.

Like the rest of you aviation fans, I LOVE airplanes! The older they are the better! My favorite airplane to fly was a 1940's Aeronca Champ that I used to rent out of Arlington Municipal ten years ago. Haven't been able to get back behind the controls since then, but I have been able to enjoy the wonderful world of flight through my photography, which has provided some darn cool opportunities over the years! I've flown in two different North American B-25 Mitchells (thanks Lyle!), T-6 Texan, UH-60 Blackhawk, UH-1H Huey, NOH-6P "Quiet One" and a few other unique birds as a result of my photography. And even more amazing that those are the people I've met along the way and the friends who have brought me along with them on their journeys.

Located near beautiful Lake Stevens Washington, it features a 3,600 foot paved & lighted runway, surrounded by 84 taxi access properties 5-7 acres in size. All properties are also zoned for horses, so we are an equestrian community as well. In addition, we are supported by 3 school districts; Granite Falls, Marysville, and Arlington.
We host numerous social events, fly-outs and activities throughout the year. Our Air Park is supported by a low dues structure and plenty of volunteer work which also helps maintain a good sense of community. Please come join our air park jewel of the Northwest. We look forward to meeting you.
